Menopause: The Perfect Storm

Have you heard the term: a perfect storm? A perfect storm is actually far from perfect for anyone who has to experience it. It describes a state of affairs that arise because a number of negative and unpredictable factors come together at just the right time.

Kind of sounds like menopause doesn’t it? First of all, to truly be in menopause, not just perimenopause (the time before menopause), it means you haven’t had a period for one full year. So there’s a big change! The best known factors of menopause include hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings and occasional sleeplessness. I have experienced them all in menopause. Lucky me!

But if you take a closer look you will see there is even more going on when we are in menopause. Things that we have known for years are changing. It’s possible that your children have all moved out and moved on. That’s a big adjustment. Your professional life can be changing. You may be getting near to retirement or you may have been downsized. I’ve seen the transition from being one of the younger people in an industry to now always being one of the oldest. I don’t always know the latest lingo or music. I’ll see an article on an actor or actress and think to myself:” I have no idea who that is!”  Everyone is looking younger from newscasters to health care professionals. What’s happening?

Our bodies are changing! Since our twenties, we pretty much coasted along without drastic changes…and then the 40’s, 50’s and beyond hit. What is that new wrinkle? Where did my neck go? I need stronger glasses again? There’s just nothing in our proverbial 30 year old brain that totally accepts the changes. We’re still so young in our heads!

Perhaps your role has changed with your parents and you find yourself more of the care giver or decision maker. Perhaps your parents have passed. More changes. More to deal with. All that you thought you knew, including yourself can feel lost…your identity…your comfort zones…your ability to roll with the flow. It can all be kind of scary. A perfect storm of circumstances and changes coming at you at once and you wonder if you will sink!

For me, the answer to my perfect storm has been Remifemin® menopause relief. It’s a unique herbal extract, not a medication. I feel really good that Remifemin has been used for nearly 60 years by women in Europe, the U.S. and other countries.
I didn’t want to turn to Hormone Replacement Therapy, and Remifemin is an alternative to HRT for relieving symptoms of perimenopause and menopause.*
That’s the thing about perfect storms, you can’t often stop them from coming…however, you can decide how you will react. It’s not easy, you wish you weren’t in the situation, but if you can get to calmer waters…things are better.
Menopause has taken what can be a very challenging time of life, and made it harder. But with the right tools, the right attitude, focus, and a commitment to doing the very best I can for myself…I will get through it. And you will too. We can survive the perfect storm!
